About SMA:
International Partners

Alianza Sierra Madre A.C.

Alianza Sierra Madre A.C. is the Mexican operational and administrative wing of Sierra Madre Alliance.  SMA and the Alianza share the same board of directors and executive director and provide mutual support for communities and the following partners:

Tierra Nativa A.C.

Tierra Nativa A.C. is dedicated to the defense of indigenous rights, cultures, and sacred lands. Tierra Nativa is currently focused on resolving social conflicts in five communities in the Sierra: Choreachi (also known as Pino Gordo), Coloradas de la Virgen, San Carlos, Samachique and Redondeados, affecting approximately 250,000 hectares, and the future of over 1200 indigenous families. Tierra Nativa is led by Ramiro Castellano, a community advisor for agrarian justice, Juan Rios Vega, a Tepehuan law student, and Lic. Ernesto Palencia, a twenty year veteran of indigenous land claims who joined our coalition in September, 2006.

El Consejo EcoRegional Sierra Tarahumara A.C. (CESTAC)

El Consejo EcoRegional Sierra Tarahumara A.C. (CESTAC) partners with SMA for conservation projects, including watershed and riparian restoration, protected area planning and indigenous biocultural vision mapping. CESTAC includes a team of four ecologists, and an indigenous coordinator, Martin Chavez, who is president of the organization.

Institutions, Consultants and Associates

SMA also collaborates with a number of institutions, consultants and associates to meet our program goals, including Nora Jacques, agronomist; Alfredo Ramirez, Biologist; Mauro Ramos, Ecological Engineer; Lic. Fausto Salgado, Human Rights Attorney; and Augusto Urteaga, Anthropologist.

We are grateful for the close collaboration and support of the National Commission for Protected Areas (CONANP), Procuraduria Agraria, the Commission for Development of Indigenous Pueblos (CDI), the US Fish and Wildlife Service Migratory Bird Conservation Program and the Wildlife Without Borders Program.
