Mexican Partners
SMA provides funding, regrants, technical support and
other services to the following partner organizations:
Consejo EcoRegional Sierra Tarahumara A.C. (CESTAC)
CESTAC promotes biocultural conservation and sustainable
community development in the Sierra Tarahuamra. CESTAC
is composed of a group of biologists, natural resource
specialists, and indigenous leaders, guided by a regional
forum of indigenous leaders and an inter-institutional
board of directors. CESTAC currently
works with the National Commission for Natural Protected
Areas, Local Municipio Governments, and other agencies,
with projects serving 15 ejidos and communities in
five municipios in the Sierra.

Tierra Nativa A.C.
Tierra Nativa is dedicated to defense of indigenous
land and to protecting the human rights of indigenous
leaders under threat for defending the rights of their
communities.
Tierra Nativa provides legal and technical assistance
to communities and serves as a liaison with state and
federal land, justice, and environmental agencies in
order to resolve conflicts over lands, protect community
rights to democratic processes regarding communal land
and forest management, and to assure the security and
peace in the region.

Buwi
Nicuruma Raramuri is a group of over 100 indigenous
leaders in the Municipio of Bocoyna who are dedicated
to helping their communities confront their priority
problems such as poverty, environmental degradation, loss of agricultural productivity,
hunger, and desertification provoked by a 15 year perennial drought caused by
Global Warming and regional deforestation. The group is also committed
to preserving traditional indigenous culture.
