ABOUT THE SIERRA: Bio-cultural RESEARCH:
Endangered Vertebrate Species of Pino Gordo

Investigators, including Biologists Andrew Miller, Sergio Avila, and César Valdivia, in a study sponsored by SMA, have documented thirty species receiving conservation status under Mexican law in the ejido of Pino Gordo (four endangered, ten threatened, sixteen in need of special protection, and seven endemic) (NOM-059-ECOL-2001).

An additional three species have been documented in the region by Dr. Dean Hendrickson, Curator of Ichthyology, Texas Memorial Museum of Science and History (indicated with an asterisk).
